Valve has just announced the sequel to GameOn's Game of the Year, Left 4 Dead. The tentatively titled Left 4 Dead 2 is scheduled for a November 17th 2009 release; only a year after the original.
Details are scarce at the time being but the game is likely to be set in the same time frame as the original. There will be new weapons, including chainsaws, axes, frying pans and baseball bats to add a melee combat element to the gameplay. You can also expect a new group of 4 survivors as well as some fresh boss infected to stop things being easy.
The already great Director AI program has been upgraded to version 2.0 and will keep each game unique. As well as changing the enemy populations and music it will now be able to alter the in-game weather, world items and even pathways and routes through the levels.
The game itself will be much larger than the original and will provide Campaign, Survival and Versus maps from its release. If Valve can polish Left 4 Dead 2 by November this will surely be one of the biggest releases of the Christmas season.

Have valve become the new cash cows?
If there were gonna announce any new game I would of thought episode 3 would of been top of the agenda.
Look at there other games like cs: source and team fortress 2 you don't see them churning out a new version after a year.
Left 4 Dead 2010 anyone?

Valve have an excellent reputation and they rarely release a game which is anything less than amazing and I am more than happy to pay for a new game having got loads of enjoyment from Left 4 Dead. Personally I can't wait for it. The fact that it is going to come out in a year is unusual for Valve, but if it was going to take longer people would complain that they took so long making it.
It was shown at the Microsoft conference, rather directly from Valve, (though) I presume it's being shown at their booth.
They're sure to show off more stuff if you go directly to them.

I'm also happy to pay for a new game but to keep me happy its gonna have to push the boundaries far further then the first and im not sure they can do that in just a year.
I feel if anything this should of been an addon for the first rather then a whole new game.
they have given so much with the game so far, including free updates,
i think calling this L4D 2 is the right choice
its not like valve do run in without thinking with games like other companies do.
Plus you need an appointment (which they are all full on)
but we have one for valve..
So we can give you a more detailed updated post when we get there about Left 4 Dead 2
or else...

i cant see any problems with charging for L4D 2
i mean, the £25 it cost i have had more than my fair share of play of the game
I mean, add up how much you have played the game (per hour) versus how much it cost to buy (per £) and your be surprised how cheap it works out.
My only fear is
"will Left 4 dead 2" kill off the original game for players?
i mean, they have just brought out the map making tool

If that was out at the start then it would of been much better as i'm sure loads more scenarios would of been made by now but now pretty much a month after its released l4d 2 is announced I think your right in saying it will put people of now in putting in a lot of effort with 2 just a few months away.
Yes in terms of the bangs per bucks ratio it looks good but if you compare it to other valve games like tf2 and cs it looks pretty grim.
I guess I should be happy that I have got so much enjoyment out of the game and like you say the bangs for bucks ratio is good but I dunno I just expected more from valve.
Valve take forever to make games, so only one year on from the original is out of character. Valve pretty much always create quality games though, so let’s hope that isn't out of character too!
Biggest surprise of the year so far, hopefully the actual E3 itself will chuck out some more
in the lobby, if not, you're restricted to which ever version you own.
No idea how it'd work on 360 though, that's probably why its a '2' and not an 'official' expansion pack as it seems.

Apparently there's a car park with all the cars alarmed...
Looks win though
That gameplay footage doesn't super impress me, but I thought that about the original before I finally got my hands on it. Nice find plat.
